More than 40 years ago, the legendary author Truman Capote hosted the famous Black-and-White Ball at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. It was a lavish affair attended by Frank Sinatra, Mia Farrow, the great, late Norman Mailer who wore a rumpled trench coat and model Penelope Tree who showed up nearly naked --back in a time when that wasn't so common. Invitations were highly coveted and with a bottle of champagne for each guest, they danced until dawn. As the sun came up, scrambled eggs were served before finally sending everyone home to sleep the evening off.
Oh, to be at that party...
The Black and White Ball in Minneapolis this weekend was not quite the Party of the Century, but held its own as the Twin Cities social set came out for The Butterball Party to benefit Open Arms. We too, partied until dawn our babysitter called and asked us to come home. There were no eggs, however.
